This (public) faculty of medicine was founded in 1965 under the auspices of the University of Niš. Since then, it has provided thousands of domestic and foreign students with the opportunity to study medicine and further improve their education and profession.
It offers a PhD programme taught entirely in English, as well as preparatory classes for entrance exams in biology and chemistry.

Goce Delčev University in Štip is a state university, ranked second on the list of state universities in Macedonia.
